Oh you pretty things! (Hels' Challenge w/e 9/3/13)

Hels set a challenge based around one of my favourite Bowie songs...'Oh you pretty things'.

She asked for something to be pretty, but... well, it's the words of the song that inspired me!  With apologies for the slight shanging of the lyric, 'Oh you pretty things, don't you know you'll drive your mama and papa insane'  Well, that's me and my sis, and I expect we did drive our mama and papa insane!! So, here is my offering:

It's created on a canvas board, which had several layers of decoart americana swooshed over it, in pinks, purples and blue, with a touch of buttermilk.  I think used a fantastic Wendy Vecchi (studio 490) stamp which looks like an old fashoned lace curtain, with archival ink in pink and blue.

Over to the right of the board, I used a mask to create the cogs with modelling paste.  When dry, these were painted with several layers of acrylic washes, ending up with a layer of glorious gold americana.

Meanwhile I coated a photo of me and my sis with matte medium probably 10 times, really thin layers. I'd printed it out on ordinary photocopy type paper, but flipped it, so the words (Bertram Mills circus, on the balloon) would come out the right way.

The real clock spring had several dribbles of alcohol ink (I am sure there is a more technical term!) over it, and I punched a hole with my crop-o-dile so I could hang the 'Destiny' tag from it.  I used the fantastic cosmic shimmers dries clear glue to have those gears 'errupt' from the centre of the spring.

Me and my sis forever encapsulated with those darned monkeys!
