L is for...Craft Barn Challenge

Bit late this time, but here is my entry for the Alphabet challenge.

This week's letter was L, and I had to include a window.  Went for something fairly straight forward, which is Landscape - which seemed appropriate for a pair of French doors!

Having cut the card to allow for the 'doors', I masked off the windows, and then, out with the trusty brayer.  I created the hillocks with various shades of Adirondack, and some torn paper.

the sky was done in the same way, with the sun, distress ink mixed with cosmic shimmers (of course!!)

All the stamps are Clarity - the trees are all brilliant!

Y is for... Craft Barn Challenge

Well!  This week's Craft Barn Challenge is Y.  I think I have the best dictionary in the world!  Mum's trusty Collins Concise came up with Y is for Yggdrasil and Yarn.  I had forgotten my Norse myths and legends, and then this!  Which meant Yarn was going to make me think of all the fairy tales my Dad used to tell me when I was a kid.

I opted for Journalling on this piece - I'm not really comfortable with journalling, that is, WRITING, as I like stamping really, but hey ho, that's what this challenge is all about.



So, usual size and base cards, to match the rest of my book.  This time though I created the flap, so I would have more space to write inside, and keep the tree on the outside.

The tree is stamped on a brayered base.  The tree and the leaves are Lavinia stamps.  I touched the tree bark up with some gold watercolour paint - that's just shimmery yellow, isn't it?!

On the inside, I used a lovely stencil which is letters (you need letters to make words, so you can spin a yarn...).  Having stencilled through with a pale yellow ink, I rotated the stencil 90 degrees, and sprayed dylusions through it - and some gold shimmer of course!

Then I used a perspex journalling thingy to create my wavy lines.  My first fairy tale is The Miller's Daughter who could spin pure straw into gold.  Below is The Tinderbox (the dog with eyes as big as saucers), and Red Riding Hood (what big eyes you have).

On the inner flap, we have Goldilocks (Who's been sleeping in my bed?), and 'Beware the men who are hairy on the inside' is from The Company Of Wolves - great film, that line has always stuck with me!.

All the writing was done with Sharpies - don't they smell!?

As usual, I created a tag to hold the dictionary definitions, and used some real yarn (I must get round to finishing that cardy off!!) instead of ribbon.

Water Challenge - Simon Says Stamp

Hi there!  Today has been interesting - lucky maybe, as I won £25 on the premium bonds (could have done with a couple of extra noughts on the end, but hey) and £11.60 on Euromillions.  I wonder what the third piece of luck will be!?!

Anyway, this challenge caught my eye on face book, Water. 

I started off with brayering in mind, but even managed to use some of the waste that arose. so have ended up with three end products!

The first one was the brayering, using a lovely Clarity stamp of a couple in a boat - I omitted the fishing rod.  I used a Splodge Mat as a base and 6 different adirondak inks to create the changing colours, as the scenery changes from the lake to the sky.  Mounted it on dark blue card and stamped another Clarity stamp around the edge to frame the scene.

I had lots of ink left on the Splodge Mat, so spritzed water on to the mat, and swooshed a piece of Clarity card through it a couple of times. Never quite sure what the end result will be, but this time, there was a suggestion of rain on water with mountains behind. So it seemed appropriate to use the same couple in a boat! I used a small piece of cut and dry with Pumice Stone Distress Ink to create a shore line.  Mounted it on grey card, and doodled a double line around the edge in black fine liner.

 

 

Finally, similar idea, but different, and this one has a name: Better In Than Out!!  For this one, I inked up a lovely IndigoBlu stamp with Evegreen Bough and Iced Spruce Distress inks, and stamped it onto the Splodge Mat.  Then I spritzed the mat, and pressed a piece of Clarity card into it.  Then, I misted the stamp, and lined it up with the original image on the card, and stamped again.  Because of the way the DI reacts with water, the trees looked like they were being seen through a cloud (or a torrent!!).  I dabbed a small amount of Pumice Stone DI again between the trees, and added a window over the top - as this is definitely a scene that I would be rather be looking out at!!

First Post (listen to the bugles!!) - Joy!

Welcome!

As I have started accepting some of the challenges laid down by other crafters, I felt I had better make it easier to upload my work.  So here is my first attempt.  Probably should have taken more pictures whilst I was making it!  Ah well!

This is in response to the Indigo Blu challenge - Blue.  Keep it simple, I thought.  So I used my brayer with an initial layer of big and juicy ink to create a background, then distress inks to create a feeling of twilight.  And finally, before I finished on the background, I used a water brush to lighten the centre to create a sunset sort of mood.

I used the Dancing Children stamp, with chipped sapphire DI, and the trusty water brush to put them in silhouette, and to give them a shadow to ground them. There is a faint hint of cosmic shimmer watercolour paint around the children, to give them an aura of magic.

Finally, mounted on to dark blue card, to pull the blues together, with a Viva pearl pen to create the pearls.  Letters from Ideology, ransom, dabbed with gold and pearl adirondack dabbers.  Hey presto!  Joy!
