She wants to show them to her friends, so here I am.<br />
<br />
These are in no particular order. Some are made as a result of attending classes, and some from kits. I've given what details I can, but the patterns aren't mine, so I can't share those.<br />
<br />
<strong>SHINEY ROCKS</strong> (My local shop in Bristol. I do lots of classes here, and they do kits.)<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK3p5czaSJeLJX0spGwYooWRnYd8qy9sJMk9ETyUUGkvNecyxPGlNLv4crNzjaj-5-rGluv7lPEfIOlsjkrrhu4p_UGRH6T1LwiseQXuSIZpGdv7DORO3FRfma3oMJSz2CkVwYy742UKTY/s1600/IMG_20150104_182237.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK3p5czaSJeLJX0spGwYooWRnYd8qy9sJMk9ETyUUGkvNecyxPGlNLv4crNzjaj-5-rGluv7lPEfIOlsjkrrhu4p_UGRH6T1LwiseQXuSIZpGdv7DORO3FRfma3oMJSz2CkVwYy742UKTY/s320/IMG_20150104_182237.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
This first one is Swarovski pearls, in a netted overlay.<br />

I call this one my Cleopatra bracelet, because the first time I did it, it was antique gold and blue colourway! I have since done it in lots of colours. It always looks great. This one in purple and black went to a school chum.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
This was a kit, but I embellished it differently to the instructions.... Not that unexpected, I am told...<br />
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

A brooch, with two elements, Swarovski rivolis at the centre, with bezels built up in seed beads, and bicones.</div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is a fantastic art deco style bracelet, and I have done it in a couple of colours. The blue and green version is being worn around Scotland...<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
A class - wire wrapping beads, with a wire clasp (made, not bought!)<br />
<br />
Gunmetal wire looks great against the green beads.<br />
<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
This one started as a class. However, with apologies to Amanda, I went a bit off piste. the central motifs were as instructed, but I didn't want to join them up in the same way, so I went 'free form' - basically, mad netting!</div>

This was another class. Using O beads, and what has become my favourite colour seed beads - Matte black AB - oh dear, I need more!!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
I have made earrings to match this.<br />

And finally, the Popcorn bracelet. A class at Shiney, originally. I have now done this in so many colours, with so many different types of drops.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here are two I did recently for some chums at work. You can't quite see, but the top one has some lovely green magatama drops. It is much more pronounced in real life!!</div>

<span style="color: black;">This pattern is called Caterpillar. The original colourway in the kit was in really amazing petrol colours. I have redone it in blue/silver 2-hole lentils, with a variety of blue (ish) super duos, and sapphire/emerald seed beads. It sparkles sooooo nicely.</span><br />

<br />
Yes, I have been away, but now I am back. And I have a new passion, which means that I'll be giving the blog a bit of a face lift, as all that paint and stuff... well it has to go... in favour of...beads, and crystals and gemstones, and metal... Bright Shiny Sparkly in fact!<br />

My base colours are unusual for me, taupe and yellow. Not quite sure where that idea came from. As I say done a couple of weeks ago, and allowed to dry (well!). As seems to be usual, I added in some iridescent white to the lovely Paper Artsy paints, to give me some bling, all over the top of CLEAR gesso this time. Not sure about this. It saved me embarrassment (see last month's post!), but the type I had dried quite quickly. It meant the colours of paint stayed truer, but...<br />

They work beautifully on top of acrylics. Fairly random 'squares', but it looked a bit bland. So I added in some of the 'known knowns' in terms of dates, and yippee!! JOFY at the end of the month...so out came the JOFY stamps. A bit of colouring (with the tongue hanging out of the corner of my mouth, of course) and it all looked a little better.<br />

On Kate's last session at the Stamp Attic she made a comment along the lines of 'you don't have to start with gesso on your page, but if you don't, it's a bit like going out without your knickers. It'll probably be OK, but you just don't know...' So I started with gesso. In honour of flaming June, I went with a yellow and blue theme. I dragged a hotel key card through some black paint too, just for a contrast.<br />

<br />
When it was dry, I used a clock face mask, and a selection of Alice related stamps.<br />
<br />
I die cut loads of pocket watches from card, and randomly stamped more of the Alice stamps on them.<br />
<br />
Stuck them all down, and hey presto!<br />

I can remember EXACTLY where I was when I first heard The Joshua Tree - in the bath in my boyfriend's flat in Yeovil! It's still one of my favourite albums, and when I saw 'Mountain' was one of the words, I knew the song I would be choosing for this <a href="http://www.thecraftbarn.co.uk/blog/q-l-challenge-mountain-mistake/" target="_blank">Craft Barn Challenge</a> (which I am only making by the skin of my teeth!). I saw U2 at Wembley, in August '93, the night Salman Rushdie came on stage. Possibly not the best gig I have ever been to, but that doesn't change how much I love The Joshua Tree. Hearing this song took me right back to Yeovil, and that flat.<br />

I created the mountains by scraping grunge paste and texture sand over a mask torn from card. Whilst searching for those, I also found some texture glass, unopened. Hmm.... Oh yes! It has that distinctive ammonia smell, but once you get past that, it's lovely! When dry it allows movement of paint nicely. So I set that aside to dry - for about 2 hours!! I spread it on quite thick. This will be used through stencils more in the future, methinks.</div>

Time for the fortnightly quotes and lyrics challenge from <a href="http://www.thecraftbarn.co.uk/blog/q-l-challenge-passion-music/" target="_blank">the Craft Barn</a> again. This time it is Passion and Music - oh yes. So, sticking to my 'I must have seen them live' criteria, I went for Tiny Dancer, by Elton John. I think Madman Across the Water was the first album of his I bought, and I remember dancing round my bedroom to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbZmPdu8Vko" target="_blank">Tiny Dancer</a> (and Indian Sunset... what a song, what an EPIC song...), I dreamt of marrying a music man... That went well - NOT! Anyway...<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The Madman cover is embroidered denim, so I wanted to start with blue. As I have been on a Kate Crane weekend (another one, at <a href="http://www.thestampattic.co.uk/classes_and_workshops.htm" target="_blank">The Stamp Attic</a>), and Kate does love a good colour wheel, I went with green. It had to be Dylusions! I added a little Radiant Rain, for bling.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Dylusions reacts with water, so I used a mask or two and dabbed through it, with water, and with distress inks - that was a good effect!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtv59CdP1Us8QdPzE0r9xfuXDGff-qd2TOpU9oEqRajj7JbCS7yTErAbOcYRAtcfwNTH0vlNhKIsfX6cn8KX2s_p5sN1TtdaAOkafR8YoO-bPLvbRPlJBoDI06KwTRB5Lm485mOVpwE9ru/s1600/IMG_20140526_065022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtv59CdP1Us8QdPzE0r9xfuXDGff-qd2TOpU9oEqRajj7JbCS7yTErAbOcYRAtcfwNTH0vlNhKIsfX6cn8KX2s_p5sN1TtdaAOkafR8YoO-bPLvbRPlJBoDI06KwTRB5Lm485mOVpwE9ru/s1600/IMG_20140526_065022.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Picking up on the seamstress idea, I used his Holtzness' blueprint stamps top and bottom, and reverted to handwriting (I must restart the calligraphy classes) the lyric.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Finally I added a couple of embellishments, a dress form, and some rain drops to act as headlights. I love the way the glue soaks up the dylusions.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
All in all, I'm pleased with it, so I hope you like!</div>

I love Tiger's eye, mainly because I remember my mum wearing the most preposterous cocktail ring, which she got out in the Gulf. Unfortunately, when I got burgled a few years back, this was one of the things that disappeared. Completely irreplaceable, but I can use the same stone and give a little smile to myself...<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-mHnxWkEJGS-6WiZY94uZYNIT0ypEoXL22pKvOc_0YppvscjIQ1w5yvz7sPzUWI4cqhes5vnATrj4I0NiH7mlX43L8sZQsDJ2Vwxq2GuLgymd0d3Zim9DmOX5c8LDb6vChv5ZHVDyPsS5/s1600/IMG_20140510_162612.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-mHnxWkEJGS-6WiZY94uZYNIT0ypEoXL22pKvOc_0YppvscjIQ1w5yvz7sPzUWI4cqhes5vnATrj4I0NiH7mlX43L8sZQsDJ2Vwxq2GuLgymd0d3Zim9DmOX5c8LDb6vChv5ZHVDyPsS5/s1600/IMG_20140510_162612.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Anyway... Because I NEED to have my glasses on a chain ('on and off more often than a whore's drawers', as my mum used to say..) necklaces don't really feature, but glasses chains do! This is where I started, combining organza ribbon, suede and rose gold findings with a couple of red tiger's eye beads.<br />
<br />
Then I moved to the bracelet, same components, but with rose gold chain too.<br />
<br />
The earrings use the rose gold findings with tiger's eye beads.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHQR4qsom36CXh1PM3yFjtyxBopZtNLx-8NbhyQOk6I2YK2vVluHhhis1hwDq1q5JW3MwB85XXPDhgRcCdKVnlaq14N8Xc_XIsa4zgxzUeK1EXErzC9KALxTWgKKaNYivM_kyCybEGn3fb/s1600/IMG_20140510_162547.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHQR4qsom36CXh1PM3yFjtyxBopZtNLx-8NbhyQOk6I2YK2vVluHhhis1hwDq1q5JW3MwB85XXPDhgRcCdKVnlaq14N8Xc_XIsa4zgxzUeK1EXErzC9KALxTWgKKaNYivM_kyCybEGn3fb/s1600/IMG_20140510_162547.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Finally, the brooch - lots and LOTS of tiger's eyes, mounted on copper coloured wire, with some wire coiled on the gizmo, and included within the design. Thanks to Louise Jacobsen for the idea, from her wirework course at Jewellery Maker last week. She used this for a ring, but it works brilliantly for a brooch.<br />

I was struggling, then the good old iPod did it again... Life's been Good by the Eagles (or Joe Walsh), and yes, I have seen them a couple of times! I'll be able to stick all my old ticket stubs into the book at the end of this! So here is the verse:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlH0T-APph0" target="_blank">It's tough to handle this fortune and fame</a></em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlH0T-APph0" target="_blank">Everybody's so different, I haven't changed</a></em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It's a difficult one to illustrate, this, so I didn't! I went for abstract.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg2YaqfsEEjSHqG4NytgeebxCbr1V6zUijuMmXz7kdFzRWBURC1dt38Ga4u1s0V2d9PsbUppxlyFxR8WQbwelHwU6eHdzxj5FpgWXqDh8cyCTN31qa33GYpKP6Ufw_RItIVLLV2Jmw-rn0/s1600/IMG_20140511_165754.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg2YaqfsEEjSHqG4NytgeebxCbr1V6zUijuMmXz7kdFzRWBURC1dt38Ga4u1s0V2d9PsbUppxlyFxR8WQbwelHwU6eHdzxj5FpgWXqDh8cyCTN31qa33GYpKP6Ufw_RItIVLLV2Jmw-rn0/s1600/IMG_20140511_165754.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a>My A3 substrate this time was watercolour paper. Because I wanted to move the acrylic about on the paper, I gave it a coating of Matt Medium (which I managed to squirt all over my trousers, my T-shirt, the floor, before I got it on the paper...), and then used the Eclectica limited edition Paper Artsy paints in blocks, with a smidge of Nougat, for graduation. <br />
<br />
My Kate Crane/Kathryn Wheel stamps turned up yesterday, so I used two half circles on the lower edge, and outlined them in white. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8sljgDWrunINkDw6XBSVG-Cqe_YDjszQvAKpWQsc02EQqr1dOVXtPsVgIGBfvrgE7gJirxNfo5HjWLIw4yWS9VEmpWF6gkHshb6TYHC3HmK4OKqhfOA9hK7JCXbCha2oPUrMgAuTzNRVf/s1600/IMG_20140511_165744.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8sljgDWrunINkDw6XBSVG-Cqe_YDjszQvAKpWQsc02EQqr1dOVXtPsVgIGBfvrgE7gJirxNfo5HjWLIw4yWS9VEmpWF6gkHshb6TYHC3HmK4OKqhfOA9hK7JCXbCha2oPUrMgAuTzNRVf/s1600/IMG_20140511_165744.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a>In keeping with the fame theme, I stamped stars in metallic Brilliance around the edge, leaving a gap for the words.<br />
<br />
Added the words, and details of the song/band, and hey presto!<br />
<br />
Hope you like!<br />

Chums on FB seemed to like them, and so I got a commission, 'something like that, but really dark purple'... Hmm. So, trawled through a few bead shops (now, THERE was a hardship) and used a couple of techniques from Louise's wire-working class at Jewellery Maker last week, and came up with... (the flash wasn't right... better piccies below...)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The bangle on Memory wire is agate beads - big ones - with flash silver spacer beads.<br />

I made the enhanced figure 8 links from silver plated wire, and attached 'charms' to them.<br />
<br />
I used head pins and eye pins to hold the beads, which are a mix of onyx, tourmaline, and agate.<br />
<br />
The clasp is also silver flash.<br />

One small matchbox made with a Sizzix die, and 3 gems...Voila! My first commission - one happy customer, and maybe the start of actually USING and selling what I buy, rather than stroking it!!<br />

Swarovski crystal kits... oh dear...<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It all started fairly innocently with a simple magatama bead bracelet kit<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
...and before I knew it I was trying a ring kit<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
then I tried a Catherine Wheel necklace, this time with some right angle threading<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

Took me a bit of a while to find a song from someone I have seen live, that I wanted to do... then I came across Two Roads by Chris Rea, and I have no idea why I didn't think of it straight away! This was on the 'On the Beach' album (yes vinyl...) and I saw Chris live probably 5 times during 86/87. I even got his signature on one of my programmes... Oh yes, I started my stalking career many years ago!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgz3WuSNh79fIY_RjMRK7G7zv7eL6drGOgB8EPRpDbLeZVLFXFY91BppsnNimQuiPmlc9DXUgdo_9h6V9osvxKFe-SlBv_q93Pan_p1UtTC0idAaqqaMHl92s-DpQEidsopwWXOLYlhUtf/s1600/IMG_20140427_193350.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgz3WuSNh79fIY_RjMRK7G7zv7eL6drGOgB8EPRpDbLeZVLFXFY91BppsnNimQuiPmlc9DXUgdo_9h6V9osvxKFe-SlBv_q93Pan_p1UtTC0idAaqqaMHl92s-DpQEidsopwWXOLYlhUtf/s1600/IMG_20140427_193350.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2j-37lq2ss" target="_blank">Two Roads</a>, and the lyric goes like this:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>Ain't it funny how you never can tell? </em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>It always seems to hit you when it's going so well</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>A little knowledge is a dangerous thing</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>Now it's lawyers at midnight and the learning begins</em></div>

However, when it is a special birthday, for a special person, I do want to make the effort. A certain someone is 60 this week - which just feels wrong on so many levels - I am clearly closing in on the same age too (a few years to go, but even so...).<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFKiiCe02GhQNn9SkJ61061Ne2th-mDBduAokNjieWB86NbjhKYnIQV96ostJTcTwSfG3cglekB-70rofIgM2S3fRpPFA-rJccb4O9msCkpHx8Yc_hOJH8v9vsivcSVqYX17O5FPkyiTSs/s1600/IMG_20140427_135927.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFKiiCe02GhQNn9SkJ61061Ne2th-mDBduAokNjieWB86NbjhKYnIQV96ostJTcTwSfG3cglekB-70rofIgM2S3fRpPFA-rJccb4O9msCkpHx8Yc_hOJH8v9vsivcSVqYX17O5FPkyiTSs/s1600/IMG_20140427_135927.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I knew it couldn't be uber-blingy, and I knew it had to go through the post. I wanted to make reference to the passing of the years...and all this led to a Kraft base card, with a little dry embossing and some mega flake.<br />

The month and year are die cut, and then glued on. Then, I started off with a wash of purple and then overpainted with some Byzantium (full of mica) and a bit of Alchemy (iridescent loveliness...). When dry, I stamped some dots, some scripts and the ticket label outlines.</div>
<br />
<br />
I die cut the tickets, distressing the edges of the weekdays, and stamping the weekends with the same ticket label as in the background, adding the numbers in blingy Brilliance ink. The final touch was to add a group photo (happy boating men!) from <a href="https://www.deviantscrap.com/" target="_blank">Deviant Scrap</a> (thanks for the link, Kate!!)<br />

Busy month... Anyway, here are my pages.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I started by painting the pages with fairly runny gesso, and then brushing through with two shades of green, with added iridescent shimmer (not enough, methinks).<br />
<br />
While the paint was still wet, I used a plastic tube to make circles/bubbles, some right through to the white, and some through as far as the lime green.<br />
<br />
I cut the card for the pockets, and while still flat, stamped the decoration in archival ink. I used red line tape to stick them down. I used the same card to cut the daily ribbons from, and numbered them for April, adding SAT and SUN (so I could work out which go in which pocket).<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
I doodled (yes freehand DOODLED!) April, with a little very basic zentangle - it's not really my thing. And then, out with the various white pens to add a little perspective to some of the bubbles.<br />

I opted for change, as this songs takes me back to my school days. Actually, it can't, as it was only released in 1983 (or 1984 if you go for the Kirsty McColl version) - I must have been imaging it my school days. I was long gone by 1983! My song is <a href="http://youtu.be/3Khln3dB0VU" target="_blank">'New England' by Billy Bragg</a>.<br />

My school days were spent in Somerset. With 20/20 hindsight, it was always sunny, the land was always lush, flowers bloomed permanently, never a care in the world. I guess that may be why I keep returning to fairly verdant landscapes. And watercolours. May have to do some proper watercolour classes, before long, I guess. </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
For this one, I used (for the first time) my inktense blocks, finely grated onto damp watercolour paper. I used a very wet brush to create my fields and sky, and dabbed some of this off to create depth, and added more, by stamping hedgerow type foliage when it was dry, at the front, in archival ink.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
I also stamped some butterflies, again because of the change reference, but also because I remember our garden being full of butterflies.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>

This time I opted for some liquitex acrylic ink, with a fine paintbrush. It's still not as white as I would like, but at least it is there. The others just soaked into the watercolour paper. I did most of my colouring in with Pitt pens (india ink) - I like that you can see the archival through it, and it was still the colour on top of the inktense.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So thanks, Billy, for taking me back to an unreal world - I am happy with the memories that are created, so I don't want to change the world I have created in my head!<br />
<br />
And....still managing to only use songs from people I have seen live!</div>

I am digging out some fantastic albums albeit on the new fangled i-thingie...So this time, on the Q&L Challenge, we had a choice of Flower or Travel - I had a great one for Travelling - but I am not allowed to conjugate, apparently (thank the lord...), so I went for Flower, and came up with <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6pQ8qKg-Ag" target="_blank">Children's Crusade, by Sting</a>.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>The children of England would never be slaves</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>They're trapped on the wire and dying in waves</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>The flower of England face down in the mud</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>And stained in the blood of a whole generation</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em></em> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>Midnight in Soho, Nineteen eighty four</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>Fixing in doorways, opium slaves</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>Poppies for young men, such bitter trade</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>All of those young lives betrayed</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>All for a Children's Crusade</em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I also thought it was quite apt because this year is the centenary of the start of the First World War. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
So, I am still going for A3. The background is a variety of Distress Stains, aiming for the darkness of the battlefields, highlighting the edge of trenches. It fades down to green with the graves in the foreground.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Over on the right I have my Soho bar, and a few syringes lying in the doorway.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
I also made up a decoupaged poppy, to link the two scenes. I used Viva Precious Metal paint in Crimson, and it is pretty heavy in the mica stakes!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
I wanted the writing to be in white, but I am going to have to try even MORE ranges of so called markers. I ended up using sharpies, as they worked fine on the Distress Stain. Didn't have a white one. That will have to be rectified!!</div>

As anyone who reads my Facebook page would know, I am mad, verging on hysterical, about delAmtri, and Justin Currie in particular. So, it had to be:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>Be my downfall, be my great regret, be the one girl that I'll never forget</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>Be my undoing, be my slow road to ruin tonight</em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwASZpIHKLY" target="_blank">Be My Downfall</a> is possibly one of my favourite songs ever. But don't get me started...<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRGty6GB44-qA5xwusq6cgxH1AyelxEum_mxiwn7afb-zwFrsCwW0ouXePlbR6wi_nE1O4n3UkJu8gGXiZV6TLpyofNcWVM88SJauPsYAlR2YyxdFF2e3TIIvG738wFyXlZagD6w9QWpqX/s1600/IMG_20140309_161835.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRGty6GB44-qA5xwusq6cgxH1AyelxEum_mxiwn7afb-zwFrsCwW0ouXePlbR6wi_nE1O4n3UkJu8gGXiZV6TLpyofNcWVM88SJauPsYAlR2YyxdFF2e3TIIvG738wFyXlZagD6w9QWpqX/s1600/IMG_20140309_161835.jpg" height="150" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
So, back to several old faithfuls on this. I started off with my brushos - incredibly intense watercolour pigment, which I blotted off to get a sunset sort of a feeling. Then out with the lovely Clarity masks, London and rooftops. If you look closely you'll see a few too many London Eyes in there!!<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihTm3ZTeBRIhKaXA43LmVTwCS96o_s066UnDhHThyphenhyphenJwy4TiFnb_rYxIwmM_nVElLcRsZX3QX8pFN7p1KijPQM3qX0Oz2nZoIBYMvM1Sgq8rj43pE22eDUAGGOyTqFIHSf95WItMrGBkwxD/s1600/IMG_20140309_194033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihTm3ZTeBRIhKaXA43LmVTwCS96o_s066UnDhHThyphenhyphenJwy4TiFnb_rYxIwmM_nVElLcRsZX3QX8pFN7p1KijPQM3qX0Oz2nZoIBYMvM1Sgq8rj43pE22eDUAGGOyTqFIHSf95WItMrGBkwxD/s1600/IMG_20140309_194033.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I added a road for the bus, and then realised that the 'tail-lights have gone out of sight' so, didn't need it!<br />
<br />
I stamped out my letters using various fonts, and added some handwriting, including the attribution. It needed a frame, and the Dyanne Reavely circles reminded me of the tail lights, so went with those.<br />
<br />

Anyway, Kate Crane's Calendar challenge beckons, so I set to, with some of the gorgeous JOFY limited edition paints. mmmm. I got JOFY's Bloom and Grow stencil out too, and used some more paint. While I was at it, I stencilled, using the bubbles mask, also PaperArtsy, but Lin Brown this time.<br />

<br />
I stamped my circles for the days using a measuring cup, and coloured in the Saturdays and Sundays with a little mica powder - it needed bling...<br />
<br />
<br />
Then out with other JOFY stamps, for the daisy, the butterfly, dragonfly and bunting. A little distress marker colouring in, and more mica powder!<br />
<br />
Hope you like!<br />

I opted for The Police, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNIZofPB8ZM&feature=kp" target="_blank">Don't stand to close to me</a>, which contains the lyric:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em><strong>Inside her, there's longing, this girl's an open page. </strong></em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em><strong>Book marking, she so close now, this girl is half is age</strong></em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This was fun, and I was very glad of the A3 layout! Started with colouring the centura pearl (non-shiny side) with layers of distress stains.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg4VzP-1YjOttPIx647kYFzWOA4lJj16G0kN7FZykawc3i5zg7oW3fj4r78bLeg7-9UA1VVsP1nMJ7eB3b-TnYJlcc6srVieOObITjBB6IpdZwoIvSUtA2gzdmE1qmGBmLX41mo3AysyEO/s1600/100_7471.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg4VzP-1YjOttPIx647kYFzWOA4lJj16G0kN7FZykawc3i5zg7oW3fj4r78bLeg7-9UA1VVsP1nMJ7eB3b-TnYJlcc6srVieOObITjBB6IpdZwoIvSUtA2gzdmE1qmGBmLX41mo3AysyEO/s1600/100_7471.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a>I created the depth with pretty much a PaperArtsy fest! There's lines (which made me think of an exercise book from my school days), there's text, the numbers around the edge, and that great circle, which looks spookily like vinyl... The pen nibs are a very old clearly impressed stamp - I may have to use that more, I think. And the ferny bits around the bus stop are a Claritystamp.<br />
<br />
Whilst searching through the stamp stash, I found that lovely 'longing' stamp - she does look significantly younger than him, and also the 'serious charge against a gentleman' which tied in nicely with 'the accusations fly'.<br />

I am taking a class with <a href="http://www.scarletlime.com/papercrafting.html" target="_blank">Christy Tomlinson (The Art Society</a>), which is really good - very different to what I would usually do, and this month - no paint! Withdrawal symptoms commencing!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdCTXAJZEtaCaeRkJN5Fx4ddbr5ujv-E8eYZSTmx_Da5X70hLVTtRWzEg03ITlQebuXQJn53NNVWWhB8ew6j3NFmiEXj-fzj7GJ3WKJSZP6zSW4Pcgw5kZCZ7LE1GmPeUfQKyDTsLEmC6A/s1600/100_7461.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdCTXAJZEtaCaeRkJN5Fx4ddbr5ujv-E8eYZSTmx_Da5X70hLVTtRWzEg03ITlQebuXQJn53NNVWWhB8ew6j3NFmiEXj-fzj7GJ3WKJSZP6zSW4Pcgw5kZCZ7LE1GmPeUfQKyDTsLEmC6A/s1600/100_7461.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Christy's canvases (she did three) were based around the look of a patchwork quilt. I think there is probably another version in me, but this is the one I am starting with. I had a papier mache frame already gesso'd up (I think I got distracted!!) so decided I would use that as my base. It's 9" square on the outside, with a 6" square recess.<br />
<br />
The covering is from a napkin, stripped back to one layer, and chopped into strips, broadly the same sort of depth. I wish I had taken a photo before I 'aquarelled' (another new verb) around the edges of each of the patches. It made so much difference. I managed to salvage a little bit of paper clay (most of it had unfortunately set into a pillow shape that didn't really fit with what I wanted to do. But I got enough to make 3 stars.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjV0iltYKhI4NwoJyL_1Zo6JvIQ7TK9mhhHKaFqtcocwdKV_UkEqQ7qPc9y0DBN1sbuMKYWswmxEgkQ_DbmrE4CJLEZXy2ZtwfcfMtaRntqYWDhKNq8ngRH2mF3n0hX9wBbIVqU1gZB5cO/s1600/100_7464.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjV0iltYKhI4NwoJyL_1Zo6JvIQ7TK9mhhHKaFqtcocwdKV_UkEqQ7qPc9y0DBN1sbuMKYWswmxEgkQ_DbmrE4CJLEZXy2ZtwfcfMtaRntqYWDhKNq8ngRH2mF3n0hX9wBbIVqU1gZB5cO/s1600/100_7464.JPG" height="150" width="200" /></a>I found some silver 'Gold Finger' in my cupboard, and some black shimmer DecoArt metallic lustre. I rubbed them both on around the inside and outside edges of the frame, and also around the outside of the plaque in the centre, and on the paper clay stars.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXqU5HrpxqGQEIGI9YN4SQxYpNXmI3pC-EUkQs5Xp7gSHK5mbxl2sR-8Nf78AG9jVI4LzggKDW2G1mJtLfl3d4AnF_nU6p4cOfIPA8AwO8Utq-lpa1vamWnlItnjIA4yItQRSESYRgqXDr/s1600/100_7466.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXqU5HrpxqGQEIGI9YN4SQxYpNXmI3pC-EUkQs5Xp7gSHK5mbxl2sR-8Nf78AG9jVI4LzggKDW2G1mJtLfl3d4AnF_nU6p4cOfIPA8AwO8Utq-lpa1vamWnlItnjIA4yItQRSESYRgqXDr/s1600/100_7466.JPG" height="150" width="200" /></a>I doodled some stitches (and on the basis it would have to be a miracle for me to sew anything, this was pretty good!) on top of the aquarelle shading<br />
<br />
This class is about using what you've got, perhaps in different ways to how you have used it before. I have a whole load of Thickers sticky letters, but these black glittery ones worked really well, with my word of the moment 'Soar'.<br />

February's page is a bit of a mish-mash, in that I thought - ooh February, spring, green shoots etc. But actually, it's not, it's dark, and grey and wet. But there has been the Olympics to provide a bit of colour... So thanks, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/calendarchallenge/" target="_blank">Kate Crane for challenging</a> me to get on and do this!<br />

In my lovely book (Paperchase, 10" square), I reused Kate's gesso method for painting, using black paint with a fair amount of gesso. Whilst it was still damp, I used some tiny amounts of red - thinking of Valentine's day, I suppose, subconsciously (I'd never think of it CONSCIOUSLY!), dragging through it with the end of a paintbrush, and also with an old bottle lid to make the Olympic rings.<br />

This fortnight's Quotes and Lyrics from the <a href="http://www.thecraftbarn.co.uk/blog/category/ql-challenge/" target="_blank">Craft Barn challenge is 'Miss'</a>. I have loved Elton John's music for ever, and one of his earliest hits just came rushing at me for this:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lywENW0ESUE" target="_blank">I miss the earth so much, I miss my wife, it's lonely out in space on such a timeless flight</a></em></div>
<br />
and of course, it gave me a change to go mad on the bling front!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqlwInJ9U5KdDcLD7c_8k8I6w66_Yg9Pkq73zbZ9mtMQtwmL3LFRkOGqUqsgKNB44zMcCgY4Chnd4TF5qynVSb94vCCI2fQqjvGb6RbT_0PuYZeZsTNhste9WuU3eFWxxPStk7Txdvs1gA/s1600/100_7448.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqlwInJ9U5KdDcLD7c_8k8I6w66_Yg9Pkq73zbZ9mtMQtwmL3LFRkOGqUqsgKNB44zMcCgY4Chnd4TF5qynVSb94vCCI2fQqjvGb6RbT_0PuYZeZsTNhste9WuU3eFWxxPStk7Txdvs1gA/s1600/100_7448.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This year, my book is A3, so I do have masses of space to go large. I used as my base the shiny side of centura pearl, and painted it with water, before spraying it with several colours of Dylusions.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFwmMmOsQrn1DTfPwZU5pL7Gbm7BxsdWdpx0Dyl78wIr3abWr2zHn3atzt3S8Zqa2WeJ8wKFTAxtkJIwalPTBMTgCJ-KXAIapOfFKD4hLtZ1y8_8IYjI9t0OmW3jstOXuW6zHZ1Qo4vrJl/s1600/100_7450.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFwmMmOsQrn1DTfPwZU5pL7Gbm7BxsdWdpx0Dyl78wIr3abWr2zHn3atzt3S8Zqa2WeJ8wKFTAxtkJIwalPTBMTgCJ-KXAIapOfFKD4hLtZ1y8_8IYjI9t0OmW3jstOXuW6zHZ1Qo4vrJl/s1600/100_7450.JPG" height="150" width="200" /></a></div>
I cut a circle out for my earth, using the hole as a stencil to rub some iridescent blue luminarte powder through, extending it slightly larger, to give my 'earth' a corona. The earth was painted up with fresco finish paints, and then sprayed with goosebumps, to make it a bit bobbly.<br />

I went for silence (not my usual approach!) as my first thought was The Sound of Silence, but I am creating a bit more difficulty for myself this year, by trying to keep to my real core favourite music...so I went for <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js17BUzCUIk" target="_blank">I Can Hear Your Heart Beat</a>, one of my favourite Chris Rea songs, another old song, from Water Sign. I suspect most of my lyrics will come from 70's and 80's.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm using this massive A3 sketch book, so I have plenty of space to work in. I found a set of old map prints and knew this was going to be my base. I trimmed it up, and gave it a really good sanding, because it had a high gloss finish. I chose a map as a back drop, because of a line in the song 'I'm in a European disco, and it's thumping up the beat' - so welcome to Marseilles! I also distressed the edges, and ripped into it to age it.</div>

Then I set to with ink and stamps!<br />
<br />
I wrote out the first few lines on card, which I then coloured using promarkers. I added a doodle of a heart monitor output on that lyric (it's NOT my heart beat, it's not fast enough!), and then glued it all together.<br />

In the 'bright, shiny, sparkly' sense, and 'The Toon' sense, and also in the hoarding sense. I buy or acquire stuff, and put it to one side for the right moment. <br />
<br />
I now have a stash of gemstones, mainly from Jewellery Maker, but elsewhere too. Today is when I start showing what I am making. I know I will get better (not entirely sure I am using the right things with the right things yet, but hey! It's only wire, so I can always take them apart again.<br />

Over Christmas, I spent ages stringing up some chips from a gem scoop, so not exactly sure what they are. There are five strands, three from the gem scoop, one from a bead scoop, I think mainly moonstone, and one strand of glass beads, sort of like labradorite. I made some earrings to match. They have silver findings, which I think finishes them off.<br />

A couple of weeks back I got some GORGEOUS agate faceted beads. Oh my. Wonderful. I stroked <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2m2ok8BkQjXRDpaHLX4G9ojatAPdKFNRenMYhXpRcVixKXte9hvzdvYKK3LsbEY4f1oTu9ZKhONRfMvv5uCwIJrYOtB1lL9qUsyeLZO6R1Txv9xMKBJWNB9NArr25FMLfgPxOcz-tbbsr/s1600/100_7434.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2m2ok8BkQjXRDpaHLX4G9ojatAPdKFNRenMYhXpRcVixKXte9hvzdvYKK3LsbEY4f1oTu9ZKhONRfMvv5uCwIJrYOtB1lL9qUsyeLZO6R1Txv9xMKBJWNB9NArr25FMLfgPxOcz-tbbsr/s1600/100_7434.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
them for a while, and then had an idea of fancy chain - which I don't have. So I used some black .8mm wire and created loops at either end. It was a bit fiddly linking them together, but I got there.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6aLqgLB4qfDhLEeTqn0aDmwCG2F-nsozjbY-c0MwVvIFxHi8WfnxA2wEpEKtDvqU2H9d8Jp7ZPHE_eEYewSWvmVs7TfiQ3_hIH4K8ZANBTagtbBkT8tHk1juDLVAb6azQ0vzAtYd7Xsm3/s1600/100_7435.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6aLqgLB4qfDhLEeTqn0aDmwCG2F-nsozjbY-c0MwVvIFxHi8WfnxA2wEpEKtDvqU2H9d8Jp7ZPHE_eEYewSWvmVs7TfiQ3_hIH4K8ZANBTagtbBkT8tHk1juDLVAb6azQ0vzAtYd7Xsm3/s1600/100_7435.JPG" height="150" width="200" /></a>The necklace is approx. 40 inches around - so it sits very low - almost belly button level. The colours are orangey, sage, mustard, all held together with black wire, ooh, lovely. Now I have to decorate that display hand I have had on the shelf for a while!<br />
